Summiting Mt. Shasta
Last weekend, my friend Paul, most of his family, and myself went on a trek to climb Mt. Shasta. After living in Redding and seeing the mountain every day for about 16 years, I’ve been itching to climb it – and jumped at the chance!
The chance finally came, and we wound up making the trip. I have plenty of stories to share – too much to write right now, but in the meantime check out my flickr set of the trip. All I can say is that it was very very cold! The route up was under 20 degrees Fahrenheit, before you calculate the wind chill of the 35-40mph wind! That’s cold!
We departed at 3am for the climb starting from our camp at Helen Lake (about 10,000 ft.) and summited around 8:30am. Ice axes and crampons and Clif bars, oh my!
